de Young Museum in Photos

The de Young Museum is one of my favorite places to visit in San Francisco. It’s nestled in Golden Gate Park, which is a great place to explore once you’re done drinking in the art, and which provides a drop-dead gorgeous backdrop for photos taken from the de Young’s Observation Deck. The de Young’s got African, Oceanic, and rotating global exhibits, as well as a wide selection of American art throughout the years, all housed in what I’ve been assured is the “largest standing copper structure in the world.” My personal favorite work from this trip was a cathedral constructed entirely out of gun parts and ammunition. Thought-provoking for sure, but also a wonder of detail and craftwork. There are definitely some amazing things to check out—and what’s better, the de Young is free the first Tuesday of the month!
