I remember a few years ago, in the middle of my first Atlanta summer, reading Bill Streever’s book, Cold: Adventures in the World’s Frozen Places. I was by the pool, and as I read, I dripped sweat and sunscreen all over the pages, blurring some of the text. That summer, imagining the cliffs of ice and mounds of snow Streever writes about was the only thing that helped me escape Hotlanta and find some relief. (Oh, how I pine for that sunshine now.)
We’ve all been hearing about the polar vortex (and I’m sure suffered from the cold it’s brought). Photographer Thomas Zakowski braved the temps and took these incredible photographs on a trip to two cities in Michigan after a storm battered the state.
